Schedule

Weekend shifts:
Saturday & Sunday – 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM

Additional shifts may be available to cover vacations, sick leave, and other operational needs.

Position Summary

Front Line Health Care is currently seeking a Cook to support a Long Term Care Residence in Toronto.

The Cook is responsible for preparing and serving meals in a safe and efficient manner while ensuring compliance with dietary standards, food safety regulations, and long-term care operational procedures. The successful candidate will support resident safety and quality care while preparing meals according to an established menu and production schedule.

The position involves preparing lunch and dinner for approximately 88 residents, served in two sittings of 44 residents per meal service.

Dining room staff assist with service and cleaning; however, the Cook is primarily responsible for food preparation, plating, and general kitchen sanitation.


Duties and Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Meal Preparation

• Prepare meals according to established menus and dietary guidelines
• Ensure meals are served on time and at the appropriate temperature
• Follow approved recipes and production sheets for meal preparation
• Prepare and plate meals for scheduled dining services

Food Safety & Sanitation

• Maintain kitchen sanitation and cleanliness according to food safety regulations
• Ensure safe food handling, storage, and preparation practices
• Follow infection control policies and procedures
• Monitor kitchen equipment and report maintenance issues

Compliance & Safety

• Support compliance with the Long-Term Care Homes Act, 2007, and applicable regulations
• Maintain safe working conditions within the kitchen environment
• Follow workplace safety policies and safe work practices
• Identify and report safety concerns or equipment issues

Resident Safety

• Support safe meal preparation for residents
• Follow dietary guidelines and nutritional considerations for the geriatric population
• Contribute to a safe environment for residents, staff, and visitors

General Duties

• Maintain kitchen organization and cleaning schedules
• Assist dietary staff as required
• Perform other duties as assigned


Qualifications

Preferred qualifications include:

• Valid Food Handler Certificate
• Knowledge of food safety practices and kitchen sanitation procedures
• Understanding of the nutritional needs of seniors or geriatric populations
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
• Ability to work in a fast-paced kitchen environment


Experience

• Minimum 2 years of cooking experience
• Experience in long-term care, retirement homes, hospitals, or institutional kitchens is considered an asset
• Experience preparing meals in large quantities


Employment Requirements

As a condition of employment, candidates may be required to provide:

• Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening
• Tuberculosis (TB) screening in accordance with Public Health requirements
• Valid Food Handler Certification


Physical Requirements

The position may require:

• Standing and walking for extended periods
• Lifting or moving kitchen supplies and food items
• Working in a busy kitchen environment


Working Conditions

This role is located in a long-term care facility where employees may be exposed to illnesses or infectious environments. All staff must follow infection control and workplace safety protocols.
