Assistant Cook
SUMMARY: The Cook is to assist the Head Cook to provide nutritious appetizing meals in an environment that enhances the dining experience. The cook cooperates with other departments to support the well being and safety of all residents.
HOURS OF WORK :10-hour shifts (7:00am-6:00pm) – Rotational Shifts (Monday-Sunday) Must be available to work rotational weekends
Rate of Pay: $23/hr
Must be fully immunized against Covid-19 (two doses)
Must have Vulnerable Sector Police Check
Must have Two-Step TB test

RESPONSIBILITIES
• Assist to prepare and serve nutritious and appetizing meals for residents in a safe and attractive manner.
• Maintain an awareness of the dietary needs of older adults.
• Use first quality ingredients and professional cooking techniques that protect the quality of each ingredient.
• Adhere to proper food storage and handling at all times, First-In, First-Out (FIFO) Inventory Method
• Assist to provide meals in the Polish and European Style
• Ensure that the food waste and spoilage are kept to a minimum.
• Assist or prepare choice alternatives on a regular basis.
• Assist or prepare cakes for special occasions i.e. monthly birthday parties, retirement parties.
• To provide courteous and professional service at all times.
• Adhere to all departmental policies and procedures regarding sanitation, food handling, preparation and serving.
• Adhere to the company policies relating to hygiene, fire procedures and health and safety procedures.
• Manage a clean work place during and at the end of each duty.
• Help to wash kitchen equipment such as stoves, working tables, ranges, coolers and storage rooms when requested.
• Participate in all in-service training required.
• Support Dietary Aide’s as required
• All other duties as assigned by Head Cook or Administrator.
REQUIREMENTS
• Experience in quantity food preparation
• Ability to prioritize tasks
• Ability to work well with others
• Ability to understand oral and written directions
• Familiar with Canada’s Food Guide to Healthy Eating and therapeutic diets
• Familiar with Hazardous Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP), Workplace Hazardous Material Information System (WHMIS), Occupational Health and Safety, and Sanitation Code
Mental and Physical Demands and Working Conditions
• Ability to lift heavy objects
• Standing and walking for long periods of time
• Toleration of heat from kitchen area
• Must be free of communicable diseases
• Must be fully immunized for covid-19
