Personal Support Worker (PSW) – Shelter & Community Support

Front Line Work Force Inc.

📍 Locations: Toronto, Peel Region, and surrounding areas
🏠 Work Environment: Emergency shelters, supportive housing programs, and residential shelters supporting adults experiencing mental health challenges, homelessness, and complex needs.

Full-time • Part-time • Casual

Pay

$21.00 per hour

Schedule

Shifts available include:

• Day shifts
• Afternoon shifts
• Evening shifts
• Overnight shifts
• Weekends and statutory holidays

Flexible availability is an asset.

 


About the Role

Front Line Work Force Inc. is seeking compassionate and reliable Personal Support Workers (PSW) to support individuals living in shelter and supportive housing environments.

Residents may include adults experiencing mental health challenges, homelessness, addictions, or complex social needs. Staff play a vital role in providing daily supervision, personal support, and maintaining a safe and structured environment.

This role is ideal for individuals who are patient, resilient, and passionate about supporting vulnerable populations.

 


Key Responsibilities

Resident Support

• Provide daily supervision and support to residents within the shelter environment
• Assist residents with personal care when required
• Encourage residents to maintain daily routines and stability

Health & Wellness Support

• Assist with medication reminders and documentation where required
• Monitor residents’ well-being and report any concerns to supervisors
• Support residents in accessing health or community services

Residential Support

• Assist with maintaining the cleanliness and organization of the shelter
• Support household duties including cleaning, organizing, and maintaining common areas
• Help maintain a safe and supportive living environment

Documentation

• Complete daily logs, incident reports, and other required documentation
• Maintain accurate records in accordance with agency and Ministry standards
• Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members

Community Support

• Assist residents with appointments and community services when required
• Provide emotional support and encouragement toward independence

Safety & Compliance

• Follow all agency policies, procedures, and health and safety standards
• Respond calmly to crisis situations and behavioural challenges
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors

 


Qualifications

Applicants must have:

• Personal Support Worker (PSW) Certificate
• CPR and First Aid Certification
• CPI – Crisis Prevention Intervention or similar behaviour management training
• Vulnerable Sector Police Check

Experience working in shelters, supportive housing, mental health programs, or community services is considered an asset.

 


Physical Requirements

This role may require:

• Standing or walking for extended periods
• Repetitive bending, twisting, and lifting
• Supervising residents throughout the facility
